The Devil wears Prada

Meryl Streep all the way. The movie is about a naive, innocent girl Andy (Anne Hathway) who come to the big bad city to work in a high flying fashion magazine as an assistant to the even more high flying editor Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep). Miranda is no saint and is the boss from hell.

Meryl Streep is absolutely delicious right from the moment she first appears. Her monologue at that point is breathtakingly hilarious ! Anne Hathway does'nt have too much to do other than look good and run around looking flustered and nice. Stanley Tucci does what he does best- act, although his part is a wee bit tiny.

The movie is worth a watch only because of Meryl Streep and yeah, Anne Hathway looks nice like how nice girls look.

Worth watching with a bunch of girls on a Sunday afternoon maybe.

Lage Raho

Refreshing

The sequel to Munnabhai MBBS surpasses the original by leaps and bounds. The story of Lage Raho Munnabhai is fresh and the performances outstanding.

I believe Vidhu Vinod chopra was more keen on the title- Munnbhai vs Mahatma while a public poll decided in favour of Lage Raho !

The story brings you the very familiar Circuit (Arshad Warsi) and Munnabhai (Sanjay Dutt) with Munnabhai pretending to be a history professor trying to woo the RJ, Jhanavi (Vidya Balan). Boman Irani puts in a wonderful performance as Lucky Singh, a builder who uses Munnabhai's services and then 'falls sick'(watch the movie and you will know why !).

The pretense of being a professor and Gandhivadi soon changes the Dadagiri to Gandhigiri. The social messages and teachings of Gandhi do appear and are portrayed in a very appealing manner. Arshad Warsi, with his impeccable dialogue delivery and comic timing is outstanding and is only getting better with each movie he does.

Does truth make a difference ? Does non-violence pay ? These and a few other questions are explored in this movie but in an entertaining manner.

Raju Hirani has done a brilliant job of direction and the cinematic effects are a treat to the eye, especially in the song where Circuit and Munnabhai are drunk and Munnabhai is recounting his experience in the 'kissing car'.

Vidya Balan looks as fresh as she did in Parineeta and is absolutely beautiful to watch. You can be sure I will be watching all her movies now.

The movie is a must watch for kids and families and all. Definitely worth a 2nd watch.

Yun Hota Toh Kya Hota

WHAT IF ?
Absoultely refreshing and outstanding.

The directorial debut of Naseerudding Shah is definitely a must watch !

The story is simple and involves parallel stroylines, the concept of which by itself is not very popular in Hindi cinema save a few effots such as Darna Zaroori hain types.

The storyline involves the stories of the lives of 4 differeent sets of people and all these stories culminating in an absolutely innovative climax.

The only fault possibly is that the casting is too perfect. Paresh Rawal, Jimmy Shergill, Konkana Sen Sharma, Irrfan Khan, Tinu Anand, Ratna Shah and to me a surprise-Ayesha takia all deliver absolutely balanced as called for by the script performances.

I never had been impressed with Ayesha Takia, but after this would like to see more of her !

Saroj Khan puts in an appearance too and Suhasini Mulay as the love interest of Irrfan Khan looks a little misplaced.

The events of 9/11 have been innovatively used and does'nt take from the movie its basic soul.

The connecting factor among the stories is the objective of travelling to the US of A. Thats where the climax really takes you by shock (may not be the appropriate word.

Defintiely a lesson in movie making.

MUST WATCH !
