Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End

The movie that broke all opening week box office records worldwide !

But frankly, what was all the fuss about. When you go to a newly opened restaurant and you ever get the feeling that the food is no different from the food you have had at the restaurant next door and you wonder why the promoters opened this restaurant in the first place ? That's exactly the feeling I got when I watched Pirates of the Caribbean: At world's end.

The sequels just don't match up to the original. While I thought part 2 was alright I found Part 3 laborious and contrived. It is true that the characterizations in Curse of the Black Pearl (Part 1) were brilliant and the success of the film ensured the sequels. I thought part 2 focused too much on the characters and had a blurred vision of the story. In At World's End, the makers have gone completely overboard with the characters, the special effects, new exotic characters and forgotten that while all these form the ingredients of a great movie, the viewer wants to be told a story.

The movie starts off where they ended part 2 with the search for Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) led by Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swan (Keira Knightley) chased by the loyal forces of the East India Company company. There is a meeting of Pirates Lords to happen so that the ancient sea goddess may be released and controlled. First they have to meet with Chow Yun fat putting in wasted appearance as a pirate lord Sao Yung. There is also Davy Jones (Bill Nighy) who wants his locker back.

All in all a huge cast of colourful characters, some amazing specical effects and the movie seems to go on and on and you begin to think- Hey, get to the point. I thought the story was made up for the sake of it and all those one liners and jabs of Jack Sparrow now seem so tiring and then there are a few wasted appearances by lots of actors.

Of course, Johnny Depp is Johnny Depp and does what he does best- Act. The movie may be watched if you really want to see how even Hollywood can make not so great movies with multi-million dollars budgets.

Now this view will be hotly opposed by Pirate fans but then I am an avid fan of the original movie but felt let down after At World's End ! let down because I am not entertained !
